Local 36 member Carla Buschjost was recently appointed to be Director of the Division of Labor Standards (DLS) at the Missouri Department of Labor. In this position, Buschjost will oversee the Division’s worker safety sections and will have executive oversight of Missouri’s Child Labor and Prevailing Wage laws. In addition, the DLS is responsible for compiling wage surveys and conducting investigations to assure the Prevailing Wage Law is followed. An important role of the Division is assisting employers and employees obtain correct information regarding their workplace rights and responsibilities.
“I am honored and humbled by my selection as the Division of Labor Standards Director,” said Carla Buschjost. “I am passionate about stronger enforcement of laws that create stronger and safer workplaces.
Buschjost was with Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 36 where she was responsible for enforcement of the state’s prevailing wages on public projects, among other duties.
The Division of Labor Standards’ programs administers Missouri’s Child Labor Law and is responsible for educating the public and investigating complaints regarding Missouri’s prevailing wage and minimum wage laws.
