The 11th annual commencement exercise was conducted this past weekend at the National Labor College’s campus in Silver Spring, MD where the NLC conferred 102 bachelor’s degrees in labor studies disciplines. Twenty six of the graduates were SMWIA members. Two Masters in Public Administration degrees were also awarded as part of the University of Baltimore’s graduate partnership with the NLC.

The 1914 Ludlow massacre, when militiamen hired by Colorado Fuel & Iron shot down and burned to death 20 people, mostly women and children, in cold blood, has long been commemorated by the Mine Workers with a monument to those labor martyrs. Now, it’ll be commemorated by the country.

The AFL-CIO and its community affiliate Working America will release the results of its sweeping online health care survey on Tuesday, June 23, lending real life voices to the current national dialogue on how best to repair our nation’s broken health care system. A staggering 24,460 people went online to answer questions about how the current economic crisis has affected their health care coverage, making the survey one of the largest data sets available on health care. People from all 50 states participated and over 6,000 people took the time to submit their personal and sometimes tragic experiences with our nation’s health care system.
