Leading House members introduced legislation today to ensure that workers do not lose wages while the U.S. Department of Labor investigates wage theft by some employers who may drag out such investigations. The legislation is in response to a comprehensive Government Accountability Office investigation into the federal government agency responsible for taking and investigating complaints of minimum wage, overtime and child labor violations.

SMWIA General President Michael J. Sullivan was interviewed earlier today on the Bill Press Show where he discussed the proposed health benefits tax that would punish middle class Americans. The plan, originally concocted by the conservative Heritage Foundation and supported by conservative presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan has become a linchpin of Republican efforts to spoil new health care legislation through the tax's effect as a "poison pill" working Americans will find difficult to swallow.

On Friday June 5th a major infrastructure announcement was made at the site of what will be a new $45 million transit facility in Oakville. The new facility was just one of the 1373 projects selected under the previously announced joint federal and provincial Infrastructure Stimulus Investmentand Building Canada funds.
