The Union Advantage

People who work for a living know about the inequality of power between workers and their employers. Workers want to have a voice at work so they can improve the quality of their lives, their job and their communities.

Workers employed with the protection of a union contract have basic rights such as the right to a fair hearing that their non-union counterparts do not have. Members have a say in their jobs and are more productive due to the increased cooperation and better relations they have with management who they work as equals with in order to remedy situations that might occur at work.  Union members also have more quality time they can spend with their families, with additional protections that help during unforseen times of need.

As a Union Sheet Metal Worker, you will become a part of one of the most progressive unions in North America and the world.

There are only three National Construction Unions with Scholarship Loan Programs
The SMWIA not only is one of them, we were the first.

The SMWIA is one of only two National Construction Unions with an International Job Bank to help members obtain work in other cities when there is heavy unemployment in their hometowns.
Once again, the SMWIA is one of them, and we were the first.

There is only one National Construction Union that has an integrity clause to stop the spread of double breasted contractors.
The SMWIA is that one union.

Once again, the SMWIA is the only one.
