Richard R. Loyd
1st General Vice President
Brother Loyd has served on the General Executive Council (GEC)in since 1994. He was admitted to membership in Local Union 21, Baton Rouge, LA in November 1966. He became President of the local in 1971 and then Business Manager/Financial Secretary-Treasurer (FST) in 1985. In March 2007, he was appointed to head up three local unions that were merged into Local 214. He also has held offices on the SMWIA’s Southwest District Council.
Jay K. Potesta
2nd General Vice President
Brother Potesta began his apprenticeship at then Local 303 in 1976. He was elected Business Agent of Local 20, Indianapolis, IN, in 1989 and became Business Manager/FST in 1994. He has served on the GEC since 2000. He holds offices on the Indiana State Business Trades Council and the Great Lakes States Council of Sheet Metal Workers.
Bruce W. Word
3rd General Vice President
Brother Word appointed to the GEC in 2005. He serves as Business Manager and President of Local 104, San Francisco, CA, the largest local in the SMWIA, and has held this position since January 2000. He started his apprenticeship in 1975 with Local 216 which was merged into Local 104 in 1982. He was elected union trustee in June 1992 and then Business Representative in 1994. He has served as Business Manager and President since his appointment in January 2000. He is current President of the Western States Council of Sheet Metal Workers.
Roy A. Ringwood
4th General Vice President
Brother Ringwood was appointed Business Manager and President of Local 105, Los Angeles, CA, in November 2001 when his Local 102 and Local 108 were merged to form Local 105. His 45-year career began with his apprenticeship in 1962. He was elected to the Executive Board in 1981; to Business Representative in 1987, and the to Business Manager/FST in 1996. He was appointed to the GEC in June 2005.
Timothy J. Hintze
5th General Vice President
Brother Hintze heads up Production Local 565, Madison, WI, a position he has held since July 1999. His admission to the union was in November 1974. He was elected to the Executive Board in 1991 and served as Business Representative/Recording Secretary from 1993 until election to his current position. He was appointed to the GEC in September 2005. and is current President of the Production Workers’ and Sign Council of the SMWIA.
Paul W. Collins, Jr.
6th General Vice President
Brother Collins began his apprenticeship in 1973 in Local 137, New York & New Jersey and was a member of the Executive Board for 5 years before appointed Recording Secretary in 1986. In March 1996 he was appointed Business Manager and President and has been re-elected four times. He was appointed to the GEC in August 2006. He is presently President of the Sheet Metal Workers State Council of New York and is on the State Council of New Jersey.
Reg Hohenberger
7th General Vice President
Brother Hohenberger was appointed to the GEC in August 2006. He began his apprenticeship in then Local 6 in 1980. Following the transfer to Local 33, Ohio in 1988, he was elected Business Representative in 1994 and served in that capacity unitl his appointment in 2002 as Business Manager and President, the position he currently holds. He serves on the Great Lakes States Council, the Pennsylvania State Council and the Production Workers and Sign Council.
Dwayne T. Stephens
8th General Vice President
Brother Stephens was appointed the GEC in August 2007. He has served as Business Manager of Local 9, Denver, CO since his election in September 2000. He became a journeyman in June 1985. He serves on the Rocky Mountain District Council of the SMWIA and the Nuclear, Hazardous Materials and Power Plant Council.
Andrew J. Maute
9th General Vice President
Brother Maute joined Sheet Metal Workers' Local 399 as a Pre-Apprentice in 1983 shortly after graduation from high school. He was accepted into the apprenticeship program in 1984 and became a journeyman in 1988. He later returned to school to earn an Associates Degree in Business Management in 1997 from the area technical college.
He continues to serve the college as an Alumni Association Board Member.
Brother Maute was elected to the local union Executive Board in 1996, Vice-President in1999 and Organizer in late 1999. He was elected as Business Manager and FinancialSecretary-Treasurer in 2000 where he is currently serving his 4th term in that position.
Mr. Maute is the President of the South Carolina Building and Construction Trades Council, President of the Southeast District Council of the Sheet Metal Workers' and Vice-President of the Nuclear, Hazardous Material and Power Plant Council. Mr. Maute represents the 1st Congressional District on the Executive Board of the South Carolina AFL-CIO.
Brother Maute is an ardent supporter of workforce development and the apprenticeship model concept for job specific training. He currently serves on the Trident Workforce Investment Board and on the area One-Stop Career Center Committee. He is the Secretary of the local union JATC. He has served on the National Apprenticeship
Contest and Roofing Task Force Committees.
Alan J. McQuillan
10th General Vice President
Brother McQuillan was admitted as a regular member in Local 30, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 1, 1968. He was transferred to Local 473 on April 1, 1989 and was elected Recording Secretary in June 1993 before becoming Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer, serving since July 1, 1996.
He serves currently as President of the Ontario Sheet Metal Workers’ and Roofers’ Conference, and Vice President of the Canadian Council of Sheet Metal Workers and Roofers.
Joseph Sellers
11th General Vice President
Brother Sellers is Business Manager of SMWIA Local 19 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
