Union activists and leaders need accurate information, supporting organizing and collective bargaining efforts and informing union members about developments that affect their rights and well being at the workplace and in their communities.
The Department also assists members and union leaders in their efforts to speak out on behalf of workers. From websites and newsletters to other publications, such as The Journal , this department uses a variety of methods, materials and technologies to disseminate the SMWIA’s messages clearly and effectively to media sources, trade publications, the general public and other interested organizations. It is also on the cutting edge of new technologies, such as the Internet, with a multi-faceted website at www.smwia.org with a members only section where users subscribe to the union’s e-mail program.
The Department’s research function covers strategic campaigns, marketing, and workforce analysis. Our goal is to ensure that SMWIA members speak with solidarity on the issues that matter to them.
